Available surface treatment processes
Preparation
Park your car or truck on safe, level ground. Raise the vehicle and place wheel chocks on both sides of the rear wheels. Remove the wheel assembly. This will give you easy access to the ball joint. Next, remove the brake caliper assembly, then the brake rotor. Disconnect the tie rod end, lower strut, and upper control arm.
Removing the ball joint
Place the tool over the ball joint and control arm assembly with the threaded shaft facing down. Tighten the threaded shaft of the ball joint tool using a socket and ratchet or wrench. Until the ball pops out of the housing of the control arm.
Installing the new ball joint
Use a cleaner to clean the inside of the ball joint hole and the area around it. Insert the ball joint into the deep cup of the tool. Position the tool over the ball joint socket on the control arm. Tighten the threaded shaft of the tool. Make sure the ball joint press pushes the joint down properly.
Finishing touches
Reinstall the other components in reverse order, then lower the car. Inspect the ball joint to make sure it is installed correctly.
